Last night I spent about an hour making up some marinara sauce with chicken to have for dinner this week. I was looking forward to enjoying this on some penne this evening after work. So I get home and put water on to boil and change out of my work clothes. When the water boils I dump some pasta into the pot only to find bugs floating around in the boiling water.

I dump out that pot and start anoteher boiling and get out a new, unopened box of pasta. When it boils I open the box. There are bugs crawling around in the pasta.

I go to the cabinent to look for more pasta and pull down a bag of something dark green and soft. I assumed it was some odd instant meal thing and pulled down another bag. Same thing. Then I saw some spaghetti and pulled it down and it looked the same. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the two bags had once been dried pasta as well but were not rotten beyond recognition and crawling with buggs...

I checked out the other contents of the top shelf and found that the three bags of various dried beans had been turned to bags of bean dust with holes in them.

Now I know where the bugs were coming from. I had looked through that pantry over and over trying to find them. And there was the SMELL of rotten food, but I could not locate the food. I simply had not thought to check PASTA. Pasta is supposed to keep for like 10-15 years... Not rot and get full of bugs...

So I haven't eaten anything. I'm hungry. And annoyed.
