History test started at 9am. I got there just in time due to a slight backup of traffic on the interstate created by a minor wreck. The test was long, one of the other people counted over 200 questions on it.

There were four listening examples and then about two pages for each period of music history with matching, multiple choice, and fill-in-the-blank questions. I did better than I thought I would but I mostly remember general things and not specifics. Oh, and there was an essay section which I didn't do very well at I'm sure.

After I got out of there (3 hours allotted for the test, one to spare for me) I went by financial aid to see about my loans. I'm approved for one subsidized lone and one unssubsidized loan this year so I'll have funds to cover this (and to keep me in debt for a while!)

I had lunch at a Wendy's across the street from the music building and saw another test-taker there and sat with her. She's starting in the fall to study Theory.

I also know another student coming in the fall to study opera performance from the opera chorus here in Augusta. She's at ASU right now.

Theory test started at 1. I had figured I might either be alright on this or bomb it totally. Pretty sure it was the latter. We weren't sure how many of us there were in the first session and thought there was one missing so he held off on the ear training portion and we went right into the written part. I wasn't able to fully analyze an entire sample, I was able to write out some scales that I think are correct (the Eb major scale I know was correct, the whole tone scale, octatonic scale, and whatever the other one was I don't know for sure about). I think I got the retrograde inversion exercise right. There was some more stuff in there that I didn't get but I don't remember what it was.

The ear training stuff didn't go well at all. Got the first melodic dictation I think but nothing else.

The 20th century section was hell. I hadn't even learned half the stuff it went into, and there were 10 selections of 20th century music to answer questions about and I didn't know what was going on in any of them except for the one Cage piece...

Anyway, it's over now and tomorrow I go up for advisement.

Today at work sucked -- the mailing equipment was not cooporating as I was training Will on it, and the database from one place was TOTALY not right and I had to fix it instead of train him. One mail job got left undone to be done by him alone tomorrow. I'm sorry Will.

Tomorrow I take tests I have no idea how will I'll do on them but even if I do poorly on them I'll be alright with it. It'll simply mean I'll have to take refresher classes in music history and music theory which I'll need if I don't do well on the tests anyway. And of course I've heard (from my voice teacher/department chair in college) that the entrance tests at most schools are designed so you will fail them and have to take refresher courses unless you are absolutly brilliant -- more courses = more money for the school you know!

Friday is advisement, I'll find out what classes I get to take and hopefully it'll work out to where I'll have that Monday, Tuesday, Thursday schedule Dr. Wyatt was trying to get going for me so I won't have to drive up as much.

Monday I'll be back at work for one last day, to clean up any messes Larry might have gotten poor Will into, and patch up and holes that may have become evident in Will's training in my absence.

Tuesday classes will start.

This has been an odd week for me just emotionally. I'm excited and scared. It's that whole wave of change thing coming up. Like watching an approaching tsunami but instead of running away I'm standing there with my arms wide open, welcoming it.
