So our first Graduate Vocal Ensemble recital is this Thursday night. Don't bother clearing your calendars to come, it's not going to be anything exciting. We have two works on our program -- a mass by Byrd and Martin Lauridson's Lux Aeterna. Today was the first time that we sang through the entire Lux Aeterna, ever. I believe that it was only the second time we read through some of the movements even! We have sung through the Byrd. Once. It really is like we are still sight-reading our notes in many places. Argh, I hate unprepared performances!
Apparently this is how it often is with GVE. I understand that you have student conductors and all, and just a few weeks to get ready for concert but... I dunno, seems like we should be a lot further along than we are. In concert choir we have already begun polishing things in the Menotti work and the Bach and Charpentier are both coming along very well also. And of course the two spirituals are good. But then Dr Wyatt has a good many more years of experience than the person directing GVE.
