[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound]"Beep"=
YES???
For some reason the install of Vista to Acer laptops (or at least mine) has this incredibly annoying system beep type beep turned ON. This beep sounds very LOUDLY at random events (such as any time I click on a filename in InfraRecorder. Not double click, simply click on. This is annoying when the headphones aren't plugged in, or when they are plugged in but not on my head. It is painful if they are plugged in and on my head...
There are plenty of other random occurrences that cause it to give off this deafening beep and I had not been able to figure out why in the world it was doing this. Now I have found out that there is a registry key to turn this infuriating "feature" on or off and at least on my laptop it defaulted to on.
Add this to the list of things I absolutely abhor about Windows Vista. Another is the fact that I still can't get it to see my XP computer on the network.
Shoot me now...
